The position of the woman in the society and family of Naoussa influenced the way she dressed, and the study of the costume gives us information about her social status. The imposingness and richness of the costume influence the clothing choice of the palaces. The family status of the family was also reflected in the garment. Thus, wealthy families displayed the costumes with the best quality fabrics and the richest embroidery. The bridal costume of Naoussa consists of the following...
The dress is usually light golden in color, short-waisted with a deep semicircular opening at the bodice. Under the dress is worn the shirt, which is distinguished by the good cashmere fabric with its beads. The bodice is covered by two collars. One is slightly visible from the inside and is less gold-embroidered, and the other gracefully protrudes slightly above the dress and lets its precious gold embroidery show. Sleeves are worn on the arms, which Naousa skillfully lets them show through the sleeves. The neck is adorned with a giurdani with coins, while under the chest is the korani worn on a belt made of leather on the inside and velvet on the outside. The apron under the belt is a silk fabric with fringes around the waist and ends on the left side of the costume. The headgear is the tepelouki, the upper part of which (tepes) has the 8-pointed or 6-pointed Macedonian star embroidered with gold thread. From the top of the tepe hangs a golden tassel, which falls back and its golden fringes reach the left shoulder. Over the dress is worn the libandi, which is a short fitted vest with sleeves that formed a gold karma at the end.
